Nestled just outside of Pittsburgh, PA, if you travel to just the right area and just the right venue, you may be privileged enough to cross paths with 16-year old Tegan Payne. Having played now for a mere four years and having studied at Duquesne University for singing, this bass, guitar, mandolin, drums, ukulele, piano playing, young woman may just amaze you. I know last year when I saw her at the age of 15, she did just that!
Tegan currently plays on and off as a backup bassist and fill-in musician for two churches, and is aspiring to become a worship leader for her youth group. She not only has a love for Christian Contemporary, but also enjoys alternative/indie music. She is inspired by the work of Stu Hamm, Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Taya Smith, Lincoln Brewster, and Need to Breathe.
With support from her family and friends at church, she continues to play as often as possible as she loves every opportunity to worship God through her abilities that she has been given, spread His Word and enjoy the fellowship and camaraderie that playing on a team brings.
Tegan hopes to go to University of Florida and study microbiology and to continue playing music as long as she can. And for the benefit of all of us, let’s hope that she does! Her music is a gift that reaches deep because it comes from a heart that loves well.
Take a listen to a little bass jam, you know just something she does when she is bored.
