Unspoken: Be the Voice.

Mike Gomez, Jon Lowry, Chad Mattson, Ariel Munozo and Don Eanes, all members of the American Christian band UNSPOKEN filled the atmosphere of Black Rock Congregation Church located in Fairfield, CT with praise and worship.

Anyone who attended the concert could feel the tangible shift in the atmosphere as the sound of K-LOVE hits like “Start a Fire” and “Good Fight” filled the air waves. Hearts melted as lead singer, Chad Mattson, shared his powerful testimony of his transition from drug addiction to serving Christ.

At an exclusive interview the band’s gifted guitarist, Mike Gomez, discussed evangelism.

“I’m a musician, and yes, the guitar is my weapon of mass construction,” Mike said passionately with a smile, “but if I’m in a store, and I don’t have my guitar, I still have my voice,” he added.

Mike makes an excellent point for the modern day church. We’ve become so traditional, it’s like a cancer which acts as a repellent to non-believers.

Gomez then adds a critical statement that should provoke every believer’s ears. “I don’t need to necessarily wait for a- I’m a music minister, therefore I only minister through music. I’m a minister of the gospel, so I’m going to love on people. I’m going to share. I’m going to pray for someone if they’re sick, if I feel led to it. I feel like that’s the way I view evangelism.”

Mike introduces a pivotal point that shifts perspective. What if we didn’t leave evangelism to the Evangelist? We’re all called, as believers, to preach the gospel to the nations (Matthew 28:19). What if we didn’t leave prophesying to the Prophets? Didn’t Apostle Paul desire for us all to prophesy (1 Corinthians 14:5)? What if we didn’t leave teaching to the Teachers? Hebrews says we ought to all be teachers by now (Hebrews 5:12).

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,” -Matthew 28:19 (NIV)

“I wish you could all speak in tongues, but even more I wish you could all prophesy.” -1 Corinthians 14:5 (NLT)

“In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God’s word all over again. You need milk, not solid food!” -Hebrews 5:12 (NIV)

The maturity of the church depends solely on our level of commitment. How well are we adapting to discipleship? How well are we carrying our cross? How well are we manifesting the Kingdom of God on Earth as it is in Heaven?

“Some people are tired of words,” Mike explained, “they want to see a sermon now a days. They just don’t want to hear one. They want action. We’ve got politicians and people making all these promises, leaving us hanging. So they think Christians are going to come, say something and leave them hanging too.”

“For all creation, gazing eagerly as if with outstretched neck, is waiting and longing to see the manifestation of the sons of God.” –Romans 8:19 (WNT)

God has strategically positioned each and every one of us within a sphere of influence. He has given us much: talents, abilities, authority. Where much is given, much is required (Luke 12:48).

This is our time to stomp on the enemy’s grounds. To take back everything that was stolen from us and our Heavenly Father.

The same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead is dwelling in each of us (Romans 8:11). YOU have the power to care for the sick. YOU have the power to heal broken hearts. YOU have the resources to feed the hungry.

Well– what are YOU waiting for?
